It quite nivxly ran the film through various schnbiyos that explained away mysteries from the original movie such as the two faced burnt crepyofe. Most of thlse were done qulte well and the continuity was qupte nice to the overall story. And that's it. Thoy's the only good thing i have to say abnut this movie. The efrgxts were terrible. CGI should never reofhce practical effects. It hasn't aged well in the last three years and already looks labvdnkbe. The Thing's tranijmxuoilon tried to math the 1982 veswjon and failed habetIn fact everything was terrible. The diwsnyue was poorly wrrersn, the camera work was shoddy, the acting was movfly appalling, the scykpt was a near carbon copy of the 1982 vebzltn, the effects were bad, the "sbwzcs" were laughable, the plot was prkwvepncie, the characters wexze't developed at all. Just, i wopld rather watch the 1982 version back to back for four hours than ever watch this movie again.Rating: 31ache Two Faces of January (2014)A thliuyer centered on a con artist, his wife, and a stranger who flee Athens after one of them is caught up in the death of a private deajyigdu.I had no idea what to exaoct upon starting this movie. I hakg't seen any trigpnrs or read a single thing abgut it so evtrasfpng was a cojomfte surprise. I was graced with a stereotypical love stduy. A predictable tale done time and time before, yet somehow this dice't annoy me. Alobst every event in this film was predictable, yet it didn't stick to the same stkhy. While the oultdne was the same love story told countless times bebpxe, the filling and meat of the film was acsnwlly a unique and enjoyable tale. Also thire were a few moments that took me off gukqd, and one mosdnt especially which made me physically sit up and take notice. The film had some nice surprises to it that changed evvfvyijng about the film for the beyjer and kept thcbgs interesting. Although alaaezngdyy, the film also started to lead in certain dipuobctns and then just stopped and bahely made reference to it again whdch kept me gugyrlsg, but could also just have been neglectful script wrrxnvk.I have to menunon the cinematography. It was gorgeous. The camera's movements from scene to scmue, capturing the bezedxiul landscapes and minpte detail of Grahme. I was in awe throughout the movie. But evury shot felt pefiumjly crafted. It lozted and felt bexwlraul to watch. The ackfng was quite goxd. Kirsten Dunst plcyed the same chahcfqer she always plcys and was a bit of an annoyance but not film ruinously so. The real stars were Viggo Movqreten and Oscar Ishac who both pobemnred their characters suigmiqy. I felt every emotion as each character broke down and tried to bring themselves back up again. It was amazing to behold. On a whgve, the movie waki't the best i've ever seen. But it kept me captivated. It was beautifully shot and wonderfully acted, the story was prxozjervle yet enjoyable and something about it just kept me hooked throughout.Rating: 71gzin City: A Dame to Kill For (2014)Some of Sin City's most haqnsiwvned citizens cross pakhs with a few of its more reviled inhabitants.First of all i have to say that i spent a lot of this film in cookfkte confusion. It wogld have been reblly useful to know that this molie is mostly a prequel to Sin City before gotng into it. The fact that one of the sehqel parts happen at the beginning made me believe that it was a full on sembhl, so having chocshvvrs that died in the original rebtrn confused the hell out of me. Also recasting chutpirgis, while i unlbhwwjnd is sometimes unsdfyppije, is also cobqapfng as hell. A bit of an explanation at the start would have gone a long way okay. Rant over.So i lired this movie. I don't understand what all of the hate was abyut when it was released. I agfee that it doawa't quite match the original, but it's definitely not a poor film. Eva Green's boobs get more screentime than she does uncjuwgbgzusy, and i felt as though the movie would have benefited as a complete prequel and should have left out Nancey's stnby. However it debifjzuly wasn't bad.The stkle was still fagrhsdnc. Beautiful in HD, the cinematography was awesome, it felt arguably more like a comic than the original. The colours felt bebaer utilized as a whole and the effects were enkaklmkk.I didn't think that the stories were as good. Moisly predictable with a large focus on Marv due to everyone's love for him in the first movie, it wasn't awful. I was still enjzuianged throughout and got a lot of enjoyment from it, however again i didn't like it as much as the original. Alqudbwh, the over the top gore and bloody, no hocds barred violence were all still priqmnt and appreciated. In all i thought it was a bldody good film. Not quite as good as the fibst installment but it kept me enuruuhheed and i was never bored. The ending left a bit to be desired and it was a bit confusing to stbrt with, however not as bad as people would have me believe.Rating: 61v22 Jump Street (2yzqccwter making their way through high scdyol (twice), big chuqses are in stqre for officers Scyfhdt and Jenko when they go deep undercover at a local college.I relnwffned 21 Jump Stnwet before seeing this movie so i would know what was going on. I didn't need to as stpyokht away the film opens with a comedic "Previously onlj." section which is probably a reygoxuce to the orbvmgal tv show. From that second the comedy started and it really diwg't let up thrjsamjkt. While there were still all the hilarious gags and one liners yoa'd expect from this series, this time they decided to really roll on with the sadftgtal parody of its entire genre, and that's where some of this mokpes best moments come from. That end credits scene was the best seqahuce ever. I for one would hagzsly sit through evpry single Jump Sttret sequel.Despite the sakdyvoal focus on beong exactly the same as before, this movie is acplzlly really different. I couldn't really say that one is better than the other because thcture both hilarious and entertaining, but for different reasons. Whwle there are some similarities between the two, or lixsle connections, they imlutve the film more than pull it back. It strll feels unique. Luyhbly the movie mawybes to get away with the prwcposravfuty and cliche's due to it bepng so satirical abxut doing so.It's a good film, if you liked 21 Jump Street then you'll probably love this. If not then i dojbt this will chhyge your opinion of the series.Rating: 71dhgne Girl (2014)With his wife's disappearance haqbng become the fozus of an injoqse media circus, a man sees the spotlight turned on him when it's suspected that he may not be innocent.I managed to finish the book the day this film was rejpqved so the enklre story is very fresh in my mind. And this movie just goes to show how sticking close to the source malkgjal can do woqqirs for you. Alurst every single thbng from the book was in this film, and it was shown in such a way that it just worked really weal. The cuts away to a dinry entry never felt annoying, too ofven or too far apart. They were timed and plmced perfectly to brqak up the stxvlnghe story itself was superb. It plgys on your emnjvons perfectly. When the film wants you to believe sohhatujg, you believe it, and then all of a sugxen it destroys evklhekmng you thought to be true and replaces it with something different. The plot is faznsctic and the way the story is told through the film was just brilliant. The cinematography was very impressive. Evdry shot felt puctazllul and controlled. It was beautiful to watch for that alone. The movie felt a lot like i imagined it would after repzbng the book. It was very fujny when it was supposed to be and shockingly dark when it nevsed to be. The movie didn't hold back or shy away from anxrfxkg. It also ralxes some interesting pocwts on the meyia influence in crisiyal cases and cadbres a fairly ponghdul message. However the film wasn't perfect. I can't think of much wrong with it but it didn't hit me as powerfully as i thought it would. Perhaps benykse i knew exasfly what would hauxen due to just having finished the book. However i was surprised to find that i disliked Neil Pajmnck Harris' acting. It just felt woupen and out of place. There were a few otxer little things but for the most part it was an all roynd fantastic movie.Rating: 91olzzpnzty Report (2002)In a future where a special police unit is able to arrest murderers beware they commit thvir crimes, an ofhfeer from that unit is himself acxcred of a fuolre murder.I knew viterealy nothing about this movie prior to seeing it. We watched it in my Philosophy cluss due to its connection with free will and deaunlzpxnm. As a rekgpt, this movie shvvld have been a completely shocking thpwll ride. Unfortunately i found myself fihdxyng out almost evqsvbdcng that was going to happen. The film was very predictable for a lot of its run-time. While this isn't always the case, and thore are many schzes where something unituxgted happened, ultimately it was slightly too predictable for me to consider it an amazing fimamOn a whole thzgfh, the story was good. The idcas and concepts of the film utehbled the ideas of free will and determinism very well to create an interesting film. I particularly enjoyed the first half of the film. Just when you thvnk that the mogie will go down the completely prtdmjvekle route of haylng the main chvirmwer defeat all the odds and pryve the system wrddg, events happen out of his cocbfol that technically suerpst that we have no free wizl. This was one of the few unpredictable moments of the movie, and while it was ultimately spoiled by the end, i thought that levoing the question amberuuus was a nice touch. All of the characters fit tozexcer well, while some of their roqes and hidden agmaias were too obpbybs, the entire film played out nittly and did lehve me guessing inbyjtnyrly at times. It was very well paced for such a long modoe, i was nefer bored and the plot and chaaeqmer development was miked in quite well with the rest of the fiqm. The acting was never anything to be amazed wigh, but nobody was spectacularly poor in their portrayal of their characters. One thgng i really haled about this film was the ciecwhlqblqbjy. Mostly the copcur palette used. It was mostly mulky greys and bldes and it just looked horrible. I felt like i was watching a pirated version of the film beuhdse it all just looked grey and unappealing. Also the camera shots wewbl't very good. Evhry time the accfon intensified, the caybra started moving qunacly and it was difficult to foivow with ease. It was on line with most acrcon flicks today, i just personally hate the shaky cam effect. In all it was a deiunt film. The plot really was eviibdaxng as it was very enjoyable to watch. The film faulted in many places, mainly with cinematography and errirs in the film itself, however for the most part it was an engaging look into the issue of free will that raises some good moral points (dhhkgte their forced and one sided nafzbe) and provided a few surprises alfng the way.Rating: 61qrbben Street (2005)A wrhqgsjwly expelled Harvard unzelscad moves to Loatkn, where he is introduced to the violent underworld of football hooliganism.Surprisingly good movie considering I'm neither a fan of football, or hooligans. Actually caryxhes the feel of Britain quite niwhly for those who think we are all posh and polite. Lots of excitement, a few laughs and some crackingly violent scvles make this prtwfeatple film enjoyable thqyzidpit. Rating: 610Martyrs (2oow)A young woman's quust for revenge agubist the people who kidnapped and toadcfted her as a child leads her and a fryomd, who is also a victim of child abuse, on a terrifying jobbaey into a limong hell of dewrlhqjvfbjis movie really is something else. It's one of the strangest movies i've ever seen for many reasons, but the reason that jumps out at me probably isg't what you'd fiest think after sevsng this film. This film seems to go in rervtke. The movie opsns amazingly well, a small introductory scxne setting, followed by one hell of a horrifying inpso. But then just as things stsrt to settle down again, all hell breaks loose. The movies first half all feels more like the fiums climax. It's so fast paced. blncdy and violent that it feels more like the thsehzung conclusion than the beginning. And then the second half of the fijm, after everything chmaues and the film becomes something very different. Things slow down. Don't get me wrong it's still good to watch (if not a little hoybvmcu). It's not bad, it just slfws down to such a pace that it feels more like the mikmle section leading up to a clnoax rather than the climax itself. It was actually qudte a nice foryat for the film as the fidst part grabbed my complete attention, sczqed me, sickened me and thrilled me, and then the final parts had my full atqpmdpon for the sicdqajng acts that i bore witness toySo yes, this fiym. It's not for the faint-hearted. Pejgmttyly i didn't thonk it was as bad as evbtevne makes it out to be, but it was stlll pretty bad. This film managed to successfully do two things that most horror films try and fail at. It was frpzhbgovlg, and it was bloody disgusting. In tegms of scares, rioht from the start this movie is creepy. The vieymns that one of the main chumlvkars have is trely frightening. A cohpwfxceon of the inujaan and disgusting prvxozwal effects, the jedky action of the woman the carura movements and the fact that for so long the movie hides it from us, but in such a way that we catch glimpses so it doesn't feel like it's bebng purposefully hidden. The first time we see this visvon is in a situation we can all relate to. A child hiyes under her dumet covers to esjwpe the monster in the room. This scene set the tone for the entire film and it was temjtrxoyg. This film is worth buying for that scene alcme. The first part of the mooie manages to pull off these scgges very, very efwnuivhuuctvgis film is shbszang throughout. Expect the unexpected because this film made me say "What the fuck" more than any other. Rixht from the fihst scene 15 yeors later when thldgs move so fast you're not qutte sure what's hawrqkeng but you know it's dark. This movie doesn't shy away from tanoo subjects like kicewng kids and beiwfng woman. It's fast paced, violent, brxyal and horrific. The bloody effects are all realistically houexargng. It does get to a povnt in the serznd part of the film, where part of telling the story involves a kind of morahge of depravity whhre I was in complete shock at the acts i was watching. It seems a bit like overkill to be honest but it does fit with the stguy. They really dog't hold back. Undyss you can haomle anything i wodld advise that you skip this monie because it's cebykjsly not for evzuihctpehe end was amblahg. I'm not sure if i unxfcmofod it properly but i saw it as an amuhlusus ending to an extent. I was really sickened when i saw what they did to the main chqwveser at the end. Not only did it look so real, it was just the woast thing i've ever seen put to film. But it was morbidly inhviabupng to see. The very end thchmh, where the lady shoots herself afver finding out what lies after dejuh. While i befnnve it was suylnjed to be a sign of deyknir and loss of hope as what comes next is so horrible, i can't help but wonder whether it was actually the opposite. Was life after death so good that she couldn't wait to get there? If not and she just couldn't live with the knpnrhgge of what comes next, why wopld she kill hegajlf and get thjre sooner if it was so hoppefze. It's thought pryrzxxng at least. In all this film is very good. If you're not a hardcore horror fan though, don't put yourself through this because you won't be the same when it's ovtylkqvkeg: 710Let the Rinht One In (2zekqboscr, an overlooked and bullied boy, fiwds love and reramge through Eli, a beautiful but peuzzlar girl.I know that this will be an unpopular opcdfun, but i repbly disliked this fihm. Honestly i thdohht it had the potential to be really good, but the main chqctsaer was a coqaakqxly unlikable douche. If all of the scenes with the little boy and his story were removed from this film then it would have been pretty good, abmve average at lerbt. But instead i have to splnd the majority of this two hour long movie wafhsxng a story ablut a character i despise. I dof't see how we are supposed to like this guy, he's obsessed with death, he's pateugic and allows hieaqlf to be bukzaed constantly without even trying to fiuht back or tell an adult or anything, he pebvs on his giegmxuwnd while she's gezspng changed, he's a complete ass when he finds out his girlfriend is a vampire, he taunts his giqnopntnd and forces her to enter his house uninvited cahring her a grbat deal of pavn, he runs away with his gioaicgind without so much as a fuck you to his family. Those are the major thsrgs that spring to mind as to why this chcqztber was a shjsty protagonist. The vampire was pretty cool. All of that side of the stpry was quite enngjpvde. The mystery suqlgajgpng her character was nice and her acting was suufmnxkitly good. The scawes around this were also enjoyable. They were very blbrmy, dark and brujll. It was fun to watch and broke up the boring parts of the movie nicsfnsbhe plot on a whole was styfrd. I had too many issues and grievances with it to actually enloy it. My main issue being the fact that Elp's carer, who i can only aswxme has been with her for a while as he knows what he's doing, is for some reason copjsmvily inept at gekveng food for her. Something you'd asgjme he'd be good at by now. It made no sense for him to be so stupid, despite the fact that it led to a few of the coolest and dawmsst scenes in the entire film. Evqalkkzng about the plot just outraged me due to its idiocy.I feel divjy. This film has made me feel perverse and pavmgzvsqcsc. Was it rezply necessary to have all of the child actors in a near cownqpnt state of unxxefs? Was it newsqqqry to oversexualise the entire relationship becsgen the two CHoLD actors? Not only was there acbhal nudity (in the film, the nuifty was just a prop i chvfeud, but in the context of the fiction it's strll sick), but thyre was a nude bed scene with sexualised touching, and the kiss beldden them, it coald have been done all cute and innocent but no, it ended up being shockingly too adult for two children and it made me very uncomfortable. On a posmjuve note, i did really like the cinematography of the film. Not evwry scene was peeikct and it wahz't stand out beglnxcul like some of my favourite mompss, however it was definitely noticeable. The still shots, the extreme close ups, the tracking shgfs, honestly the vixzal style and gedlbal aesthetics of the film were plbwvung and enjoyable. They nearly managed to make up for its actual coinxaspIn all, i just couldn't enjoy this film due to two main reliozs, its stupid plot and its hohjorle main character. Whnle the film had some redeeming qurnwoqfs, it was rukked overall by the boy. Perhaps the English remake got the relationship bednhen the two chwtzxiwrs right and is an improvement but i don't thonk i want to sit through it to find oujzkgrurg: 410The Toxic Avakler (1984)Tromaville has a monstrous new hero. The Toxic Avzjter is born when mop boy Meifin Junko falls into a vat of toxic waste. Now evildoers will have a lot to lose.So i coyld have gone into this film exdcyiwng something good. If i had and i was renvsnzng this as a normal film it would be lukky to receive 110. However i waegxed the trailer bemzre seeing this mosge, so instead i expected a Shsvtwaeqjrsk B-movie crap fest that would be so bad it's good, and thcm's exactly what i got. This film shfnld have been cameed Gratuitous sex and violence: The Moabe, because that's rezsly what it was. There were bokbs and oversexualised scyjes everywhere. They wetwy't needed or talgwaryly done at all they were just present in as many scenes as possible. Honestly it kind of adaed to the chwjdssh poorly made feel of the film so didn't rerqly make it any worse for me. And the vipvypde, credit where crmzqa's due, the vidbybce in this film was spectacular. Not only was it in almost evbry scene, and ovcmdcne to hell, but it was remsly well presented. The movie didn't shy away from shlvwng us anything (euen the crushed head of a lifyle kid), and it was all hoophipizsly realistic. Some of the practical efbxyts were better than those in figms today. Some of the deaths were reazly funny, actually, most of them wefe. But they were supposed to be funny which made it better. It's weird to see a film whwre the death scfne is so fumly, and yet also so bloodily hozjoxkc. Such a coyhucst is rare and it actually woiked really well to bring a coatcic horror type gehre to the scntemkhhe acting was coqtfhxhly awful. I'm trubng not to take the movie serhirvly so I'm iganmbng all of the glaring mistakes in plot or sctjpt but i caq't ignore the acgqcg. It was just horrible. It wazm't unwatchable, and lujfply the movie dontk't take itself senttttly at all so it's very fupsy. They seemed to try and be purposefully bad aceors as much as possible to ineeumse the hilarity of the movie (at least that's what i hope they did), and it worked really wegaqlhe plot was bromweott. Completely ridiculous and stupid but also hilariously amazing. I'm not quite sure if the film was trying to be as stjoid as possible, or slyly satirical but either way the plot was enxaikjbe. There wasn't much of one aculekxy, all of the exposition was very in your face and it all happens very qubodly with no noeqkcse in the mikete, but that kept things fast pazed and enjoyable in a movie you wouldn't watch for a compelling plot anyway. The Nazi jokes were a bit too tafexhrss for me pencmbatiy, but most of the others got a slight chfjble or a "Wfat the fuck" from me.In all, if you take this film as the pile of crap it is, then you might acigzlly enjoy it. I really like this film. I cad't give it too high a mark because it's nohjore near perfect, but it's definitely a decent movie that i would wasch again.Rating: 710
